World Wide Art, Los Angeles, California
Premiering this week is a brand new contemporary art show in downtown Los Angeles at the Convention Center located right across from the famous Staples Center sports arena on South Figueroa Street. Organized by Santa Barbara promoter Thomas Tunberg, this start up fair attracted strong exhibitors from across the globe, including such places as France, Argentina, Japan, Bahrain and China, the latter was extremely well represented here. Also on hand were numerous art galleries and artists from the United States including natives of Los Angeles and New York.
As to be expected for an art show on its maiden run, the works were not super expensive, with the vast offerings being somewhere between $1,000 and $50,000 in price. However unlike the now dormant 19th century art market where as "Brown remains down" the young collectors remain engaged especially with contemporary art. This type of offering is the current state of the art market, and its future. Young collectors were seen walking around the show literally using their iPhones to see how a particular painting might look at home when viewed again on the iPhone or a larger screen like a desktop, ultimately to be used as a swath against what ever colors are on the walls of the intended domestic destination.
Opening Night 1201 South Figueroa
Opening night was extremely well attended despite a Los Angeles Kings hockey game going on across the street, as parking is much easier in Los Angeles than back east. The fair remains open for the rest of the weekend, hours are from 10am until 7pm on Friday and Saturday, Sunday from 10am until 5pm
