The most visited museums in Paris, the most visited city in the world, will now be open 7 days a week, announced last week by President Hollande.

Among them are the Louvre, with 9.7 million visitors the single most visited museum in the world, and containing 35,000 objects, one of the largest.

Also on the list is the Musee d’Orsay, almost facing the Louvre on the left bank and housing one of the world’s most impressive collections of impressionism in a converted train station.

Finally, the palace of Versailles, the royal chateau in Ile de France, covering 7 ha, The architect for the palace was Louis Le Vau, the interior decorator was Charles Le Brun, and the landscape designer was Andre Le Notre.

Previously Musee d’Orsay was closed on Monday, the Louvre and Versailles on Monday. But (oh, isn’t there always a “but”)… The additional opening days will be reserved for…schools.

The move to have a day reserved for schools is seen widely as a way to make education in French art and culture more widely accessible at an earlier age.
