Arisen from a dusty 40-year sleep, rare Mercedes is discovered in Ponte Vedra
They are called barn finds, rare car discoveries akin to Howard Carter finding King Tut’s tomb in the Valley of the Gods in Egypt back in 1929.
As sunlight gleamed on the uber-rare 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL when it was first rediscovered recently in a Ponte Vedra Beach storage unit after 40 years, the dust-covered relic has started a process that will see it shown to the public next spring.
This 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe has the distinctive side vents, all part of a sports car hand-assembled in Germany and based on a race car of the same name. The original tires on the Gullwing have massive cracks, but still hold air.
