It's not often that you visit a fair in London on an opening day that is so packed, that you can't take any photographs, or speak with any galleries on the floor, but that was the case in the first few hours of the Winter Battersea Decorative Fair in the Evolution Marquee, Batersea Park London yesterday. We had to leave and come back later on: it was really that busy.

The news from this show with every dealer we spoke to, was that the opening day was one of the busiest on record, with some stands completely selling out and having to re-stock and re-display very quickly, in order to look open. Export business was being done, and new clients were visiting the fair for the first time, and spending.

The Battersea Decorative Fair's 160 dealers show a menagerie of eclectic disciplines; from modernist design to contemporary art works, and from antiques to historic textiles, and it all sits very well together indeed, it just seems to gel, and with a friendly tranquil atmosphere (when it's not packed), it's one of those events where it's a pleasure to cruise the floor, hastle free, and where the dealers all seem very relaxed indeed. With prices from £100.00 up to about £25,000.00, you can honestly say there's something there for everyone, and dogs are permitted within the fair, too.

The show runs through to 8th October, with further details available on the website:
