Still Life in the Manner of Antonio de Pereda - Provenance: The Collection of Benoit Oppenheim, Berlin; by descent in the family. Sold for $817,400
The October Grogan and Company Auction in Boston Massachusetts saw strong results across the board. The top lot of the sale was a still life oil painting catalogued as in the manner of 17th century Spanish artist Antonio de Pereda. The painting quickly caught international attention as dealers and collectors traveled to view the painting in person during the exhibition. After a spirited bidding war between several bidders on the phone and in the room, the painting soared above its estimate of $5000 - $7000, selling to a bidder in attendance for $817,400.
