Last bastion of Inca rebels reclaimed by the jungle. Centuries later Archaeologists explore a ‘secret Inca city’ below Amazon jungle rising ‘lost treasure’ hope.

ARCHAEOLOGISTS uncovered a “secret city” from the Incan Empire that was buried deep in the Amazon jungle and it could be hiding the famous “lost treasure” of the pre-Columbian tribe, a documentary claimed.

The Incas are considered by most scholars to have been the most developed in the Americans, dominating the Peruvian highlands until the last stronghold was conquered by the Spanish in 1572. Evidence of this advanced civilisation can still be seen today, with the most famous – Machu Picchu – becoming a popular tourist destination. However, in the shadows of this 15th-century fortress,  which sits 2,430 metres above sea level, hides the lesser-known settlement of Choquequirao.
