At times, you almost feel like you are in the middle of a live performance watching Loving Vincent, where the director is balancing the artists’ legacy, the mediums of paint and film, and a story line. Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman move skillfully between these three facets throughout the film, and at some points delivers some awe inspiring scenes. The Church at Auvers scene in particular, almost makes you leap out of your chair. I suppose the question is, has the Loving Vincent team of artists, directors and everyone involved in this film done the legacy of Vincent van Gogh a good service, and the answer to that question, is, a resounding yes, on all levels.
Loving Vincent will have its UK Premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on 9th October and is released in UK and Irish Cinemas on 13 October. See the official trailer below, then go see the movie.
