Christie’s today announced the appointment of Geraldine Lenain, formerly number 2 in Christie’s Shanghai, as senior Director in Paris. She continues as an International Director of Asian Art.

Ms. Lenain is an expert in Chinese ceramics and works of art, who spent much of her childhood in China. She is also a biographer, notably of the fabulous Chinese art dealer C.T. Loo, (1880-1957) who can honestly be said to have changed the face of Western collecting.

Last season’s Asian art sales were extremely strong in Paris. According to Antiques Trade Gazette News, Christie’s June 9 sale made 16.2 million E, beating out Sotheby’s 10.3 million E. Druout Auctions realized 16.5 million E for the same period.

Christie’s which is owned by the French billionaire François Pinault, has for the past few years been holding one major sale in London and one in Paris, as well as the New York and Hong Kong Sales. But – location, location, location as the real estate markets proclaim…Paris is Europe’s most popular destination for Chinese luxury shoppers, according to the European Federation of Chinese Tourism.
