As summer digs in its heels, NYC grows weary and inhospitable (more so than usual)— a wasteland of irate taxi drivers, seething concrete, and sweaty New Yorkers.

It’s no surprise that a mass exodus to The Hamptons erupts every sunny weekend, sending Lilly-Pulitzer-clad women and Sperry sporting yuppies to those little, golden hamlets by the ocean.

Whether you’re summering on Meadow Lane, or kicking it on one of the numbered streets (God forbid), there’s plenty of Long Island Iced Tea to go around.

East Hampton has a rich agricultural history, thanks to its Connecticut-bred settlers who dropped a pin (so to speak) in 1648. A few hundred years later, it became the summer destination for some of New York’s most affluent families. It even inspired an iconic piece of American literature— we’re looking at you, Gatsby.

Sadly, the island isn’t comprised of “eggs,” though we do know of an estate (read: Castle) that served as inspiration for Gatsby’s palatial abode. Just give Gary Melius a ring to reserve a room at Oheka Castle so that you, too, can luxuriate in the misery of unrequited love. You’d be in good company. The cast of Gossip Girl sipped on cappuccinos while filming in “Italy” in their sixth season, right around the time that Derek Jeter got hitched at the heavenly milieu.

Whatever be your joie de vivre, New York (the City and the island) have plenty to offer; which is why Art, Antiques, and Design is launching its Instagram from what we consider to be one hell of a party. Though we can’t promise that we’ll make it out to Amagansett every weekend, we certainly will try. Follow us @art_antiques_design as we launch our artsy following this June.
