Appearing at 8 Duke Street St. James’s, is the ‘Bahrain Art Across Borders' initiative (BAAB). A kumbaya gathering of artists, with press information rammed to the rafters with the usual PR company florid language, which reads like this:

BAAB fosters excellence in the visual arts through exhibitions and educational programmes that serve as catalysts for the future of Bahrain and for Arab Art. Our mission is to promote cross-cultural dialogue and enable artists to better understand the time in which they live professionally. Through a series of annual exhibitions and events to be held in a different international city each year, it will also serve to introduce art collectors and enthusiasts to the talents and vision of Bahrain’s artists.

Please, stop with the pr art babble, it’s starting to get dated and boring.

We were in attendance for the opening evening, with images below highlighting some of the works on display, and some of the artists who made it over to London for the opening. Being a commercial event, it all boils down to whether the art sells and whether collectors wish to buy into it. According to Janet Rady - the curator of the event - a quarter of the exhibition is now on hold, with a number of pieces sold, which to all intents and purposes, appears to be a good start for the first outing of BAAB.

Bahrain Art Across Borders runs through to 4th June, at 8 Duke Street St. James's, London.
