On Sunday March 30, 2014 Freemans, the only real auction house left in Philadelphia, PA, held a remarkable sale of American and European paintings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These paintings of the Barbizon and Impressionist aesthetic had been the collection of the late George Horst, and these works came from his grandson, so they had been tucked away for decades.. Many had been exhibited when they were first painted and had not been on the market since. In short, this was an extremely fresh collection of paintings. This produced strong bidding and that forgotten item of note, artist auction sales records, which were set for Emil Carlsen, George Loftus Noyes, Marie Danforth Page, Frederick Wagner and Howard Russell Butler.
