The Verandah gallery owned by the charming Ana Fleming recently hosted the annual charity art exhibition in aid of the Emerald Hill children's home and Emerald Hill School for the deaf. The annual event which asists over 100 children has become a fixture on Harare's calendar.

This year’s event raised over $8,000.00. The exhibition was a fantastic social event with much of our local art market turning out to support this cause. Music by Detema Jazz band and refreshments and wine by Vabatsiri Soroptimist club provided for a great atmosphere.

Verandah Gallery was established in 1992 when Ana Fleming was a member of the fund raising committee for the Emerald Hill Children's Home. A suggestion was made to host a charity art exhibition, which Ana offered to host it at her home; from there the Verandah gallery was born and the rest is history.

Today the Verandah gallery remains at the forefront for the showcasing art from local artists such as Pip Curling and Petros Kaseke, and has provided a platform for upcoming artists to be mentored and gain exposure. Next year we celebrate a centenary for the Emerald Hill and the Verandah Gallery hopes to hold an even bigger exhibition.

Ana Fleming does such a great job helping these disadvantaged children, not only is she saving lives, but she is giving these children an opportunity to excel in life through her selfless efforts. Next year will be fantastic, so, if you happen to be in my neck of the woods, give me a call and I’d be delighted to escort you to the exhibition. Next year's dates to be confirmed.
